He also faulted JAMB for making money in billions for the FG, insisting the body, which is not meant to be a revenue-generating agency, has been exploiting Nigerians over the years.

Corroborating Kwande’s position, a former University of Abuja Vice Chancellor, Professor Nuhu Yakubu regretted that government has not deemed it fit to scrap the body, which he accused of retarding the country’s educational development.

They spoke in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders national discourse on security, peace and economic development, where they also attributed different forms of insecurity in the country to the rising level of illiteracy.

Organised by the Global Initiative for African Development (GIFAD) in conjunction with PAN African Institute For Global Affairs and Strategy (PAIGAS), the event sought ways of solving Nigeria’s numerous socio, political and economic issues contributing to insecurity.

Kwande said “It baffles me when JAMB announces that it has made billions for government, that should not be the issue since it is not a revenue body for government.”

“These are monies made from poor people who are forced to rewrite the same exam over and over, despite reaching the cut-off marks, but were not able to gain admission into the university of their choice. So, how do you explain such a situation,” he queried.
